In the strange world of exoplanets, we are discovering that some may have very unusual shapes. Take the newly released illustration of KOI 1843.03, showing a world that is distorted into a football-like shape. Though the exoplanet has not been definitively proven to exist, it's believed to orbit a red dwarf star around 395 light-years away.
Time flies on the small world (only about 44% of the Earth's mass), as it orbits its star closer than any known planet. "Whizzing around its star in only 4.245 hours, a 'year' for this planet is just over one-sixth of a day on Earth," astrophysicist Leslie Rogers told . Further, KOI 1843.03 is thought to be made mostly of iron, giving it the designation of a "cannonball" planet, much like our closer-to-湖北福彩快3 Mercury.
